Creating a Character

Well, I am not good in writing a good english essay, but I am quite good in writing a chinese essay. So I believe the experience of writhing a chinese essay do helps, especially the plotting part.

Characters are very important. From all the books I read(about 600, though mostly chinese ^^), I could only remember those stories with unique or powerful characters, or those with real great plots. Hence this shows that characters do helps in the story.

A good story must have a good character, described vividly about his/hers personalities. This must be described well, to show the character's way of thinking, way of doing things. Well described characters leave strong impression to readers because readers can feel the character, like a real person, what he thinks, what he wants.

The best is to write the character base on yourself, your own personality, more easy to depict.

Essay Starting

Miss Huang had said before that the starting of our essay is very important, hence she suggested us starting with visual or sensory descriptions

For Example.

Taste, Sight, Smell, Touch, Sound.

My primary school English teacher had told me some other good startings,

1.Start with a question, to question the essay question itself. This type of starting normally is written in First person-narrative, more of the opinion if the narrator itself.

2. Start with a quote. I know this is lame, but it does has a effort in helping to hint the moral of your story. A easy way to start but try to find relevant quotes.

3.Start with a statement. I mean start by agreeing or disagreeing the title. To state your view point, another first person story starting.

I believe these would be helpful to you all, though myself have yet to try out the starting :P

Racisim

This should not be happening in places like Singapore, where racial harmony is emphasized a lot by government. Yet it does, especially against the Indians.

I had seen a lot of times, passengers avoiding seats beside indian men, especially those indian construction workers. I do understand that their smell are not very pleasant, but we should never say or act in front of the person. It is rude and racist, it's their culture to put on the scent, we should not discriminate their culture.

I had to admit that I am racist sometime too, especially toward the malays. I do not know why but i alway refrain from going near the malays when possible. Maybe because of the fierce and gangster look-like face those malay displayed.

Well, at least I had never met anyone who is racist against me. I hope that racism should be kept to the lowest, in order to have a harmonious society.

2.Reflect on the phrase, 'Anyone is guilty who watches this and does nothing'.

Well, for this I disagree. It is true that anyone who watches but does nothing to help are selfish, but sometimes they could do nothing to help, and people are selfish. They are self-centered, everyone is. They wouldn't want to lose themselves helping others, especially lives. However, I believe that we should, no matter how dangerous the situation is, we should at least do simple things we can to help; call or ask for help, or any other helps you could get.

I did see people being discriminated against before, even I myself was discriminated against before, i do understand the feeling of that and hence I always could not control myself when hearing people insulting others due to difference in race, region, or nationalities. I always get very agitated and tend to scold the people who did that.

However, I think what I did does not really help much to the victim. When I was discriminated and given names in the past, I always want someone to comfort me, it is very hurting for someone to discriminate you. I would be friend with the victims and tells them that, not everyone dislike you, not everyone discriminates you.
