Perspectives of a Short Story

The difference in perspective:
-First person point of view; focus on narrator's thoughts, impressions of others. Not reliable as this only has one perspective, limited to know one's thought only, difficult to describe others' feeling. Not much descriptive phrases could be used.
-Third-person point of view; many descriptive languages could be used, can sees everyone's thought, more detailed and clear.

Hence, we are recommended to write third person as this allows us to use more descriptive languages and clearly tells out our story with different people's thoughts, not only based on one's judgement like the first person point of view.

Poem: The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveller, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair;
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was
grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, And I-
I took the one less travelled by,
And that has made all the difference.
Thoughts:
This poem is very meaningful.
People walks different paths, do different jobs, have different hopes. However, the reality does not allow people to do on their wills.
People who became lawyers, doctor or successful businessman are rich, powerful, and considered successful. But people who follows their dream and passion and become their dream jobs, those that are uncommon and earns less are considered less successful. Especially the current situation, people only care about your result, not what you think, what you did, what you went through, and what you want.
Hence we should, or at least try, to let go our dreams and hopes, to do things that many others want to but could not, to do things that are tougher than what other did, to do things that are less done by others. It maybe tougher, but it make a difference.

Poem on atticus

Atticus was feeble;

he was nearly fifty.

There was nothing Jem and I

Could say about him.

He worked in an office, not

A drugstore, he did not drive a

Truck, he was not the sheriff.

He did not do anything that

Could arouse admiration.

The school buzzed with talk about

him defending Tom Robinson,

none of which was complimentary.

“He’s the best chequer player ”Miss Maudie said,

“he can play a Jew’s Harp”

Those accomplishments made me even more ashamed.

One Saturday, Jem and I went exploring.

We were beyond the Radley Place.

“That’s Tim Johnson, ain’t it?”

We raced to the kitchen.

“Gimme Mr Finch’s office!” Calpurnia shouted.

“Mad dog’s coming!” Her message was received by the neighborhood.

A Black Ford sprinted into the driveway.

Atticus and the sheriff got out.

“He’s within range, Heck”

“Take him, Mr Finch”

Jem and I nearly fainted.

Our father took the gun and walked quickly.

Time slowed to a nauseating crawl.

With quick movements, the rifle cracked.

Tim Johnson flopped over.

Miss Maudie said that people in their right minds never take pride in their talents.

One Shot Atticus.

Term one Reflection

I should say. Miss Huang is great!

For the past few years, I never enjoyed learning English. Mostly due to the fact that I am not good in this language, and also I find the teachers boring or buyer.

However, this does not apply to Miss Huang’s lesson, she is so interesting, I had never been so enthusiastic about LA lessons before. I understand my own ability, I know I couldn’t write well, but I tried to. Miss Huang is the only teacher who saw my effort of trying. The others just think that I cannot write, hence I anyhow write.

I also learnt a lot from Miss Huang’s lesson, from elements of story to human values. Miss Huang cares a lot for our moral thinking. She will be very angry if any of us makes fun on things that are wrong, and I appreciate that. Some of our classmates are not very good in their attitudes, I know. Hence this reflection system indeed helps them to stop making wrong statements on something that is sad or serious.

After all, though this term is extremely busy for me, I enjoy every LA lesson taught by Miss Huang. ^^

LA test: Compromise

I realise that many people in our class got the idea of this word wrong, well, I am too. I hope my story is not out of point.
Compromise:
-settlement of differences by mutual concessions;
-an agreement done by both parties with adjustments of claims or loss.

Hence, a compromise needs to be an agreement between two people who not only agree to the compromise, but also lose something in the agreement in order to gain thing he wants and in order to happy the both parties. Thus, both parties have to LOSS something in the agreement, it is a MUTUAL CONCESSIONS. Many of us got this wrong. :)

Mississippi Burning- Q1

1.I do like the movie. It truly displayed the discriminations towards the black in the past, but I also hate this kind of movie. They showed too much cruel and bloody truths that hurt me a lot while watching the movie. It makes people feel so sad and angry at the same time, how could the white do this kind of things? Aren't the blacks lives? Why they don't deserve living?
